The Freedomist Party of the USA met in executive session on August 27, 2008 and voted 4 to 5 to endorse the candidacy of GOP Presidential hopeful John Mccain.

As Freedomists we have hoped to have a real leader from the more staunchly constitutional constructionist tradition, a leader who is not connected with the old power networks, as a candidate we can support. Unfortantely the realpolitic in this nation is starkly limiting for such choices thanks in part to unfrai ballot access laws and thanks to a process that allows the candidate with the most votes to win, without there being a runoff in cases where a majority is not earned.

We beleive in fair election with paper ballots and fair ballot access as well as majoritarian elections in which candidates must win the majority in order to be elected. These reforms would allow for greater choices, instead we often find ourselves facing a slowly encroaching expanse of big government and the planned economy on one hand or a rapidly advancing expansion of these things on the other hand.

There are many things to recommend John McCain, from his service to his near prescience on key foreign policy issues, but his support of amnesty for illegals which would have been prior to enforcement and protecting our borders and authoring of a form of campaign finance reform that is a direct violation of the 1st amendment alarm us greatly.

While we endorse John McCain for President, in consideration of the starkly limited realpolitic of this nation, we urge individuals to become active locally in their political party of choice and at the municipal level to promote a more “Freedomist” agenda.

We believe that we, freedomists of all types, need to become better organized through such organizations as the #dontgo movement, third parties, local party precincts, and online social netwrking and information sites including blogtalkradio and yahoo groups, in informal networks, alliances, and confederations that unite for issues, causes, and events that are designed to positively take power from the present Pravda/Big Government/Mega Corporation alliance and place it in the hands of individuals and local communities and States.

This is a tough call and with some of our members and supporters it will be a controversial call. We respect that and where these folks are coming from, but in the end we must focus our energy on building a movement for positive change that rolls back the power of big government and entities that promote a planned economy with an honest recognition that we are weak in this area and an honest and realistic hope that momentum for such organizations is growing.

There are many other organizations and groups that are staunchly conservative/libertarian/constitutionalist/traditionalist/free market in nature that we could recommend, and we will over time.

America needs some breathing room while we prepare to  create movements that are capable of producing candidates thata re solidly with us in our common cause for American freedom!
