U.S. Official: Iraqis Said Saddam’s Weapons Of Mass Destruction Were Sent To Syria

PM Sharon & IDF Chief Yaalon’s 2002 statements on

Saddam’s WMDs confirmed

An American official has just confirmed what has been long suspected – that Iraqi weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) were dispersed to Syria and Lebanon prior to the deposition of Saddam Hussein’s regime by US-led forces in 2003. This would tend to confirm a statement by former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in 2002, backed up at the time by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Yaalon, that Iraqi WMDs had been removed to Syria. (See the second following November 13, 2006 column by Caroline Glick).

1. Ryan Munro, ‘U.S. official: Iraqis told me WMDs sent to Syria: Former head of prisons says incarcerated ex-Saddam forces disclosed move,’ World Net Daily, July 30, 2008

A former American overseer of Iraqi prisons says several dozen inmates who were members of Saddam Hussein’s military and intelligence forces boasted of helping transport weapons of mass destruction to Syria and Lebanon in the three months prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

DANGER IN NEW ORLEANS/MISS.

Sep. 1, 2008 SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES

9:02 Heavy rain bands and tornadoes are the real threat, so far 3 tornadoes have touched down, but the storm is now a Cat 2, which is better news than it being a Cat 3 or 4 as originally feared, the eye-wall is nearing the region of the Grand Island on the southwest coast, 90 due southwest of New Orleans.

New Orleans is getting more sustained hurricane strength gusts. The bad news is that the rainfall levels will be higher than thought with 9 foot waves, storm surge of 12-13 feet, and Grand Isle has received over 14 inches of rain, which is the biggest threat. Locals say “this storm will be a test, but the levies should hold.”

If there are levy breaks the West Bank is the area where the greatest danger lies, so far, so good, but all seems to be well.

8:56 first gusts over 75MPH start hitting New Orleans, no bad news from levies or canals.

8:33 AM Watching the buoys areas on coastline have 86 MPH winds, inside N.O. winds at 40-60 MPH, storm surge is not expected to be as bad as originally feared but the main worry is that not all work on levies was completed, eye witnesses and Fox News reporters say the worse hit so far is Empire LA, which has 117 MPH winds, but storm is 90 miles southwest of N.O. which should see hurricane force winds within a few hours.

10:48 Flooding n New Orelans, worry of a levy to the west, BIG STORY is the direct hit on Houma, and oil and gas town that has no levies despite plans that have been stalled. BARGE LOOSE IN the INDUSTRIAL CANAL, Coast Guard working, even in storm, trying to catch, IF IT is not stopped will cause massive disaster in that area.

11:38 AM WATER IS TOPPING LEVY in the west along The Industrial Canal. Two ships and a barge, one a decommissioned naval ship, flooding apparent around the Industrial Canal, one ship is rubbing up against the city’s water and sewer supply. ONE BARGE just reported secured and contained, THIS WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS of the three loose vessels.

11:54 AM Water topping levies in the upper 9th ward, no massive flooding apparent from video, mostly the wind is blowing the water that is near or at the top and it is lapping over, but not massively so.

12:00 PM The major concern is the storm surge, not so much the wind, and this surge is supposed to be coming in the next few hours. Chertoff says next 12-24 hours are critical and there is great concern about the Industrial Canal levy and the situation in Houma, which is talking a direct hit. Storm surge is now predicted at up to 14′ and already the water is topping the levy along the Industrial Canal levy which is at 10.5′ while the water if 11′ and rising possibly to 14′. Fear that the levy at this spot is being undermined. This will evolve over the next 4-5 hours. So far, despite media alarm, local officials on scene are saying “the wall has behaved as it was designed.”

12:39 PM Water flow over Industrial Canal picking up, spilling over in a more steady stream into upper 9th ward, there is also a broken train bridge impeding efforts, people are still in the upper 9th ward and have been told to GET OUT NOW by all means. This does not LOOK dramatic, but experts seem to be rather alarmed. They are having trouble dumping out Lake Ponchatrain (sp?) which is a whole other problem, however, if the storm surge does not increase much more things should hold.

1:03 PM All we are seeing now is more substantial lapping over the Industrial Canal levy walls, but so far things look fairly stable, Amry Corp feels more optimistic but confess to be a “little bit nervous”. The loose barge is now secure with only one morning. Two 400′ ships are loose, near a bridge, they need to be commandeered but the Army Corp says they cannot catch them: these ships could damage the levy. These are decommissioned Naval Supply vessels. The Coast Guard is struggling, quite literally, to catch these ships. Seems to be good coordination.

It is hard to filter hyper sensationalism from fact as, in view of Katrina, everyone is so quick to fear the worse. So far it seems that there are concerns but it seems more and more probable that the worse case scenario will not play out, that all officials did a great job. Look for future recriminations over the Barge and the two ships, people will try and blame the Army Corp but in reality these vessels were in a scrap yard and it is probable that they were not double-moored as the Army Corp and Coast Guard requested over and over again.

A note about the water, news media says it is “pouring” over the sides of the levy: it is lapping over the sides more teadily but it appears that only around 6″ of water has accumulated on the ground. The main concern is that in some locations where there is only grass and dirt the lapping water could soak the ground and undermine the wall, but these walls were designed to handle a 10′ to 14′ surge and Katrina caused a 19′ surge.

LIVE RADAR UODATE

11:04 Pm Aug 31, 2008 “Two hours or less and tropical storm force winds will its the coast, avoide coastal highways and roads as these are right in the path of the storm…”

10:11 PM Aug. 31, 2008 POSSIBLE good news for New Orleans, bad news for Louisiana-Texas border area: we may see less severe winds than predicted, perhaps 60MPH, all eyes and prayers on the Gulf Coast.Storm looks to be tracking west, looks to strengthen but not hit N.O. directly. Major hit along Texas and Louisiana Border.

#gustav could lose BOTH supply ports for oil out of NO if a “non federal” levy breaks, “number 23″, LOW FED HELP for levy project!

FEMA HELP LINE 1800 621 3362…. Army Corp says 2/3rds levies shored up but says they are “comfortable”, evancuation is key, search and rescue teams in place. GET OUT IF YOU HAVE NOT!!
Amid an order for mandatory evacuations, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin plans to ride out Hurricane Gustav in city hall, he told WDSU on Sunday. Gustav’s first outer rain band darkened the sky over the city around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Marty Tippadoe of Little Kiyou Fire Department: two month old fire station 9 feet above sea level, has second floor, will decide very soon based on wind and direction to stay or leave. Volunteer firefighters were sent away, vast majority of residents are gone.

The big talkk is about Bobby Jindal’s ‘contraflow’ plan, a plan to manage the flow of traffic out of the LA coastline. If this plan works, Jindal will have another feather in his growiing resume. If it doesn’t, leftists are already sharpening their attack pencils. While the Hurricane itself is the overwhelming important part of this story, we at AFN want you to pay attention to the ‘contraflow’ plan..You’ll find info on it on all the local newspaper sites we gave you above.
