Barack Obama’s 95 percent fantasy

Senator Obama has repeatedly promised on the campaign trail and in the debates to give “95 percent” of the American people a tax cut. There is, however, a little problem with this promise. Fewer than 95 percent of the American people actually pay income taxes each year. According to the National Taxpayers Union, the top 50 percent paid 97.01 percent of all Federal income taxes by income. Those below $31,987 paid the other 2.99 percent. Based on these figures, which are from the 2006 tax year, you can extrapolate that about 70 percent of Americans pay federal income taxes. I’ve heard figures between 60-80 percent pay federal income taxes.By D. M. Ross

How, you surely are asking, does Senator Obama think he’ll give a tax cut to all these millions who don’t actually pay taxes? The answer is simple; he’s not going to give them a tax cut. Those who don’t pay taxes can’t get a tax cut. But Obama has every intention, I’m sure, to send these folks a check or a refund after they send in their 1040. He’s either going to extend further eligibility to the so-called “Earned income tax cut” or simply give them rebate checks. Either one is welfare.

This is just one example that is very much like many of Obama’s phony promises. What he tells you is not at all like what he will really do once elected. Read the fine print, ask questions and be skeptical. The Obama plan is a sham.
