Microsoft AntiTrust Hearing Cancelled- 5-22-9

[1] “BERLIN — Microsoft and the European Commission have canceled the only hearing planned in an antitrust investigation into the company’s Internet browser because of a dispute over the attendance of European regulators serving as advisers.”

The ruling about the fines to impose on Microsoft will have to come from all the written statements. This could possibly be more signs of a potentially growing protectionism on both sides of the pond.

““It appears many of the most influential commission and national competition officials with the greatest interest in our case will be in Zurich and so unable to attend our hearing,” Mr. Heiner wrote on his blog on the Microsoft Web site.”

Microsoft may have been attempting a delay because of June elections for the EU Commission which could change the EU’s top competition official, delaying the process while the new person assumes the post.
