6-28-9 Iran News- Freedom News- Updates- NiteOwl Update of Iran and Information to help Iran Freedom

6-28-9 Update:  From the Guardian:   http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jun/28/iran-mahmoud-ahmadinejad

“The power struggle inside Iran appears to be moving from the streets into the heart of the regime itself this weekend amid reports that Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani is plotting to undermine the power of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Rafsanjani’s manoeuvres against Khamenei come as tensions between the speaker of the parliament, Ali Larijani, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also appeared to be coming to a head.”

This follows up on our story we originally reported last week:

http://iran.whyweprotest.net/news-current-events/2717-green-brief-10-june-26-a.htmlI’m NiteOwl AKA Josh Shahryar - twitter.com/iran_translator on twitter - and I’ve been immersed in tweets from Iran for the past several hours. I have tried to be extremely careful in choosing my tweet sources. What I have compiled below is what I can confirm through my reliable twitter sources. Remember, this is all from tweets. No news media outlets have been used.

These are the important happenings that I can positively confirm from Friday, June 26 in Iran.

1. No large rallies or prsotests were held today. There were unconfirmed reports of small gatherings in isolated areas of the city, but for the most part, Tehran didn’t seem to witness the same as it has been for the past two weeks. Sources indicated that it was in no way a sign of giving up, but rather a brief interval in more protests that are to come. They added that currently, the Sea of Green is organizing and regrouping as well as coming up with new ways to defy the authorities and also know of the fate of their leaders in order to progress.

2. At 1 PM, however, a large number of people in Tehran took to roofs and released green balloons to show solidarity with the Sea of Green and to commemorate protesters who’ve died so far. (Link showing the balloons: YouTube - IRAN RIGGED ELECTIONS: Green balloons were used as a form of protest all over Iran 6/26/2009 ) At night, the people again took to the roofs and chanted “Allah o Akbar” and “Death to the Dictator”. They also burned candles and held vigils. There was confirmation of the death of one protester who was fired upon by security forces as he chanted from his rooftop. Reports of vigils also came from Mashhad.

http://iran.whyweprotest.net/news-current-events/2717-green-brief-10-june-26-a.html3. Khamenei was supposed to lead Friday prayers in Tehran and give a speech; however, he was a no show. Ayatollah Sayyid Ahmad Khatami a hard-line cleric and a member of the Assembly of Experts who has strong ties with Khamenei and Ahmadinejad lead the prayers in his stead. He claimed that the protesters were acting against Allah, branded them ‘rioters’ and called for their suppression through any means possible. He also added that the government will not bend against pressure and that Neda was killed by protesters. This is backtrack from the government’s earlier statements that Neda had been ordered to be killed by a BBC correspondent.

4. Reports indicate that the reason why Khamenei did not attend the prayers was Ayatollah Montazeri’s statements yesterday that denounced the government’s suppression of the protesters’ ‘legitimate demands’. This, according to sources, creates a divide between the powerful clergy which has pressured Khamenei just enough to stop him from giving out another speech of the caliber he gave last week. 4. Whether Montazeri’s current stance will develop into something of a bigger boost to protesters remains to be seen.
5. (For those who don’t know, Montazeri was Khomeini’s designated successor until just a few months before Khomeini’s death; he openly criticized the Islamic regime and was sidelined in favor of Khamenei. He still wields enough considerable support among the more moderate clergy and is popular among liberal Muslims in Iran.)

6. Meanwhile, on the government’s official English News channel, Press TV, George Galloway, a British MP representing the constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow, spent several hours denouncing the protests, Israel and Zionism. He called upon the world to accept Ahmadinejad’s re-election and called on the protesters to go home and accept the will of the people. He did not indicate which people he meant when he made that statement.

7. A reliable source indicated that Khomeini’s family has thrown its lot behind the protesters. Although they denied calling out for a protest tomorrow, they indicated that they were with the protesters and claimed to be supporting the protesters lawful demands and don’t consider Ahmadinejad’s government legitimate anymore. This, coupled with Montazeri’s statements and Larijani’s lethargy, is a strong indication that the clergy are divided in what to do with the protesters and that there is a considerable level of public support now for the protesters among the religious elite.

8. The spokesperson of the Guardian Council announced today that a commission had been formed to recount 10% of the ballots cast with representatives of the candidates present. The commission includes Ali Akbar Velayati, Hadad Adel, Eftekhar Jahromi, Aboutorabi Fard, Dari Najafabadi and Hossein Rahimian. He also gave candidates 24 hours to appoint representatives that would join the commission in the recount.

9. As reported before, the government is heavily charging people for the return of their dead family members’ bodies who were killed during the protests. Families are being charged thousands of dollars and are also required to sign a waiver that states they won’t sue the police and that Mousavi is the reason behind the death of their loved ones. More people were arrested today including Mohammad Mostafaie, who is a prominent lawyer and important reformist.

10. . The Iranian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden was attacked today by angry Swedish-Iranians after a peaceful protest. It has been reported that as the protesters neared the gate, one of the guards tried to force the protesters away which enraged them and they tried to take over the Embassy. The police were forced to call for back up to control the protesters. There was also a report of a molotov bomb thrown by pro-Sea of Green protesters at the Iranian Embassy in Bern, Switzerland. It caused little damage to one of the walls.

11. The government is continuously attacking and arresting Iranians who are using twitter to get the message out to the world. Several of our sources have so far been arrested or have stopped using twitter altogether, yet the remainder have pledged to continue until the last minute. Amidst the somber mood, some emotional moments can also be seen. One Iranian tweeted: “I would rather our Iranian youth were tweeting about Michael Jackson than having 2 face this death & horror. Lets set them free to do so.”

(There is simply too much on the tweets about where Mousavi is at this point. According to last reports, he was being sternly watched by the government and his movement is restricted, but it’s an ever evolving situation.)

The government in Iran is still increasing internet filtering and throttling in an attempt to silence their people. Anonymous info shows that many in Iran are looking for proxy and Tor information in Tehran and all around the country. Please donate your bandwidth to help bring down the Iran Curtain. 6-26-9 Freedom News- Cap and Trade passes House- battle switches to Senate

ccfeditor A Sad Day in Washington Politics: Cap And Trade Passes House http://short.ie/y3wg83

“House Democrats have narrowly passed a bill that republicans say could make your electric bill skyrocket.”

“The climate change bill passed by a twelve-vote margin even as skepticism over the concept of global warming is growing worldwide.”

The battle now shifts to the Senate, where groups such as reagan2.com  and others have already begun to gather activist teams to prepare for the Senate campaign, targeting the soft middle of the Senate, the blue dog dems.

The focus on this next round of battles could potentially be over the Pelosi ties to natural gas giant CLNE, which stands to make the Pelosi empire millions of dollars in profits from her ownership in CLNE.  Rumors swirl around multiple dem members having ties to CLNE as well, such asour story used  in the washington examiner

Green Revolution- a poem http://tinyurl.com/iranpoem #iranelectionWe start with this video, as it blends another epic story with this, the death of a legend. When mortals die with the extraordinary gifts such is Michael Jackson possessed, they cross over to myth in an instant. Though Iran’s story is far more important to the world than the death of a King, a world cannot help but give pause to such a moment. It is almost a physical necessity, even when the world is in such peril as it is right now.

Someone on one of the cable networks described a moment in Times Square shortly after 9/11. New York could still smell the death-head dust when Michael Jackson made an appearance. The man on the cable news show described a crowd devoid of all thought of the panic we were all still feeling at that time. They were looking at a magician, and no matter what is occurring around us, the presence of magicians, not artists, but magicians, always command our physical draw to that spot, for life is not magic, as is so painfully being illustrated in Iran, but life can hold magic, and for a very select few, a couple every generation, they get to become magicians, able to create a seamless art, an art you take for granted until you’ve thought about it for a while.

Long ago I had grown to appreciate the sheer genius of Jackson’s work, even his last album, an excellent album I am sure will now get a second listen it deserves. His gift was in being able to create a high level of craft into a sound that was…in a word…POP…pure pop laced with the full vocabulary of the most sophisticated of musical expressions across a range maybe a Mozart or a Lennon could cross.

This is not a musical critique, it is about the involuntary pause the world is taking in the cause for Iran, a justification, if you will, but now a call…

For most of us, a moment such as the death of a man who has created the sounds that dominate our heads as few others have, must be reflected upon, and a man such as him still deserves a level of acknowledgment. But while you give this manchild king his due, dont forget the blood that is sowing graveyards in Iran.

Iran, the voice of the green revolution, the cry for a simple chance at being able to choose their own lives’ paths, still needs our help more than ever. She is still fighting back. She has not surrendered. So why should we? So we cover Jackson’s death, not to chase a trend, but because it is a significant, almost catastrophic loss for a nation already feeling its own measure of pain and division.

But we still serve the Iranian people. We are trying to do the things they have told us to do.

Iranian Instructions from the Green Revolution

http://blog.freedomist.info/2009/06/24/6-24-9-iran-freedom-anonymous-letter-from-iran-to-the-world/We want you to @barackobama on twitter, and @ the news tweeters you follow on twitter @glennbeck ,etc..and ask them to @barackobama this message
Please recognize the good things some of IRAN govt are doing for freedom

Name the groups directly…like the Generals from IRG who stood for freedom

Everything else, you are doing fine- from IRAN

Do variations until you come up with the most effective use of 140 char. Our twitter mind can create this.

follow the @barackobama search and follow each other…build up a mesh of freedom..use good sense when deciding who to follow….watch for IRG…report IRG with #banIRG so we can all compile lists we will eventually send to twitter.

These are just some of the ideas the Iranians and others have shared. But we don’t want to present all of them at once, and, in truth, some of them are dependent on our initial results.

freedomist: so many of our friends have gone silent for too long..pray for our iranian friends #iranelection

6-26-9 6 PM EST Freedom News Week Radio 30 minutes of freedom- green is freedom  http://bit.ly/6PnD3 #green #tcot #p2 RIP MJ @twitter revFrom Tehran Bureau

While no one really knows what happened in Qom, there has been speculation that cleric #2 has tried to unseat cleric #1 and for this, he desperately needs the support of the god squad.

Rumor has it that #2 has approached one of the top sources of emulation in the Shia world to allegedly garner support for his cause, which does not seem all that clear as he has not officially taken a stance on it.

This video is from June 20, 2009. This is brutal, so be forewarned. We’ve taken to shielding our eyes when we see a new video, peeking through our fingers, never knowing what we will see next. I must confess, I don’t watch the ‘difficult’ parts beyond the confines of the shadows between my fingers, but my job is to document, for the Iranian people has asked us to do this. You do not need to be part of a revolution in spirit by looking full in the face of the blood that spells harsh realities. That’s not what anyone wants for you who make these videos. they only want you to document their struggle, and to lend them a hand in any way you can. These people rely on our social networking sites, especially youtube and twitter, to help them fight back if they choose, or hide if they choose. We are here to support the people of Iran who face the brutal tale of blood in every odd sound that chases the silence from another sleepless night just after the crowd winds down after another nightly chant of “alla akbar”.Jacko, Michael Jackson, God give him peace, was a tragic tale told larger than the planetary myths themselves. His is, though, one story, a story of the magician who could never experience his own magic because he knew the trade secrets. Let us give a time of monumental importance to the passing of this great musical force that swept across our American conscience. But not now, not yet….Iran needs us America. Iran needs us Denmark. Iran needs us France. Iran needs us Germany. Iran needs the world. Our followers on twitter/freedomist are from around the world. We are a new global reality, fractals in a webmersion network, decentralized freedomists capable of building and destroying vast world networks with but the adjustment of followers and followings and hash codes.Twitter is the unintended model of a new reality, the rise of the mesh networks, the uncontrollable masses, the ultimate test for governments around the world. As twitter hints at the decentralizing powers to come, powers which conversely create powerful worldwide networks, unending and always changing, at the fingertips of any local point within the network, the hemooraging of human contact across the last barrier…….government control. This is why Iran is so fundamental to all of us freedomists around the world. If we fail them because Michael Jackson died, it will be a tragedy which will ripple across another wave of fascist control around the world. It is for the Iranian people to decide what nation they will have. If the will of the people is to have a czar, let them have a czar. But unless you are willing to slaughter every single citizen in your domain, you will no longer have control of their simple power to opt out of your system and sign up for another empire or a city-state, or a nation, etc that has the kind of rules they want to follow. It is an age where men and women become customers of governments, not wage slaves, not tax farms, not vote farms, but customers governments will have to compete for.A victory for the Iranian people will not magically usher in this age, but believe you me there are men and women the world over with bad intentions now working in labs to study the unique networking power of twitter and other microblogging engines. They will believe they can somehow contain the genie let loose from the bottle. It’s as if the Wizard came out from behind the curtain, but turned out to be the Terminator, sans the skin. But even that terrible machine could not withstand the cauldron of tweets that broke the final barrier in humankind’s effort to communicate freely, artificial government impediments.

Now, no one is unwatched. No group can ever be cut off from getting vital intelligence from the world. Governments can employ thousands to conduct cyber warfare. A twitter storm can produce 20 million around the world, in due time, maybe 200 million. A mesh network across the world of freedomists ready to come to the aid of any oppressed freedomists.

The mind of twitter cannot be controlled by a central authority, but twitter is only a taste of the technologies to come when the web shakes off its current ip limitations. In more powerful environments, coupled with an increasing number of private satellite systems, gps, etc, the advantage is going to go to powerful, incredibly secure micro-networks swimming in a amorphous sea capable of building mega networks at a moment’s notice, then dissolving it as quickly.

If we can help Iran, we can all help ourselves, secure for ourselves the power to opt out.

So, for the sake of world freedom without world power, tweet for your freedomist life, tweet for the tip of the spear, the people of Iran.

God bless.
