http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2009/10/29/ny-23-hoffman-leads-and-now-it-looks-like-he-really-does/The latest round of polling gave evidence that Hoffman is on the rise and has pulled even with, or ahead of, Owens as Scozzafava has fallen into third place. In a newly-released poll commissioned by the liberal blog Daily Kos, Hoffman is within one point of Owens, 33 percent to 32 percent, with Scozzafava lagging well behind in third place with 21 percent….Even more encouraging to Hoffman’s backers, the Daily Kos poll shows Hoffman is winning over more Republican voters than the GOP’s own nominee. He leads Scozzafava 41 to 34 percent among Republicans — a sign that GOP voters are increasingly identifying with Hoffman as the true Republican candidate.
And he holds a 19-point lead among independents over Owens, 47 percent to 28 percent, suggesting that his outsider message is resonating, and that his support isn’t confined to the conservative base.

Statement from Governor George E. PatakiAs someone personally engaged in the way of life in the Adirondacks and Northern New York, I’m deeply concerned about the course of our nation and the outcome of the election in the 23rd Congressional District.
Simply put, we cannot afford to give another vote to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid we cannot afford another vote for higher taxes, we cannot afford another vote for government run health care and we absolutely cannot afford another vote to take away from hard working men and women the right to secret ballot.
That is why tonight, I’m proud to endorse Doug Hoffman, a Republican, running on the Conservative line for Congress in the 23rd Congressional District.
Doug Hoffman will stand up to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. He will fight for all the residents of northern New York. He will fight for our proud servicemen and women at Fort Drum, our dairy farmers in Lowville and our manufacturers in Plattsburgh.
As a businessman, and as a life-long resident of the North Country Doug Hoffman understands the need to lower taxes on working families, the need to stand tall against terror and he won’t back phony stimulus programs that fail to create the jobs we need and leaves a mountain of debt to our children.
When elected to Congress Doug will work to reduce our taxes, he will stand tall against those who despise our freedoms and he will be a vigilant stalwart against those who would substitute government programs for individual initiative.
And Doug Hoffman can win.
I urge all the voters of the 23rd Congressional District – Republican Democrat, Independent and Conservative to come out and vote for Doug Hoffman for Congress.

From The Politico
The House Republican leadership is prepared to welcome Doug Hoffman into its ranks, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) said Thursday, a sign that the GOP establishment is recalibrating its approach toward the contentious New York special election and the Conservative Party nominee whose candidacy has divided the party.

Doug Hoffman gets big defender- Rush Limbaugh - from world net daily
Doug Hoffman- Freedom report- 23rd District frontrunner reduces GOP candidate, Scozzafava, to 3rd party status
“The Republican Party, as constituted is as dangerous to this country as the Democrat Party is. ‘But Rush, party loyalty is party loyalty, and the local Republican committee up there has endorsed Scozzafava.’ So? I’m saying the two parties are the same. I guess I need to amend it a little bit, but, man, when I saw that they were running ads, as I say, ruined two hours of my day,” he said. Political News- Bob Corker pounces on GMAC bailout plea- Detroit News
30. October 2009 by admin.
From Detroit News—-
…..But Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., blasted plans Thursday to give GMAC more aid.
“Continuing life support to an institution like GMAC is a major mistake,” Corker said. “At what point are we going to stop propping up zombie institutions to support industrial policy through our banking system?”
GMAC spokeswoman Gina Proia said the company is working hard to transform itself.
“We intend to comply with the Federal Reserve’s final assessment on any additional capital they determine is needed at GMAC,” she said. “The management team at GMAC has been executing an unprecedented number of initiatives to transform the company, restore financial health and maximize the investment by our shareholders. … GMAC is a key part of the solution to support the U.S. auto industry by making the appropriate level of credit available to consumers and businesses, including auto dealers.”

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/10/29/iraq.elections/index.html?eref=rss_worldThe fate of Iraq’s national elections hung in the balance Thursday as the nation’s lawmakers failed to convene for an official session and adopt an election law, a move that could spark a delay in the upcoming vote.
Members of the 275-member Council of Representatives caucused over the proposed election law legislation but not enough of the politicians were present for a quorum. Lawmakers told CNN that they hope to convene as early as Sunday to consider the measure.
Elections are scheduled for January 16, and the constitutional deadline for the elections is January 31.
China News- Business- China and US seek to walk back from trade war
30. October 2009 by admin.
China and the US resolved several thorny trade disputes on Thursday even as Beijing confirmed it was investigating potential dumping of US-made cars in the Chinese market.
At a high-level meeting of officials from both countries in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, China said it would allow US pork imports and relax restrictions on wind power components and government procurement rules.
Thursday’s meeting comes three weeks before the first visit to China of President Barack Obama and against a backdrop persistent trade tensions, concerns about the strength of the US economy and renewed criticism of China’s currency policy.

Iran on Thursday night indicated it wanted to make significant changes to a draft agreement with the US and other world powers over its nuclear programme, in a move that may scupper the chances of any final accord being reached.
Almost two weeks after starting negotiations with the US, France and Russia over the draft, Iran finally delivered its response to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. The agency said last night it was negotiating with Iran and other parties over the accord, but western diplomats suggested Tehran’s demands were unacceptable.

From Yahoo News-
WASHINGTON (AFP) – Videos posted online by US oil company Chevron purporting to show rampant corruption among Ecuadoran officials, are actually a set-up meant to taint an ongoing trial against the energy giant, an attorney in the case alleged Thursday.
“By releasing the videos, in my opinion Chevron is trying to taint a trial process that they knew they were going to lose, with the hope that the case would be dismissed in Ecuador,” Steven Donziger, an attorney for Ecuadoran Amazon communities who are suing the oil giant told reporters.
Chevron at the end of August released several grainy videos purporting to show “a three-million dollar bribery scheme implicating the judge presiding over the environmental lawsuit” against the US oil major.
The Ecuadorans allege that Chevron dumped billions of gallons of toxic waste into the Amazon.

China News-
From the article: China has an insatiable appetite for the world’s natural resources to sustain an economic boom that powers ahead despite the global downturn.
The quest for raw materials is the central goal of the country’s foreign policy. And virtually every natural resource imaginable is found just over the border.
China densely packed country trying to keep its economy roaring ahead by laying its hands on natural resources, living alongside a largely empty region with huge mineral wealth and fewer inhabitants year on year….
China must expand at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so. With a questionable border region tied to rich resources, these issues may yet come to the surface.

Lender CIT Group close to bankruptcy- Reuters
30. October 2009 by admin.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - CIT Group (CIT.N) is likely to file for bankruptcy in the coming days, analysts and experts said.
The lender to small and medium-sized businesses is trying to restructure its debt, and is offering investors two options.
One path would be getting its unsecured debt holders — who hold a total of about $30 billion — to voluntarily exchange their bonds for new securities and equity. That path would avoid a bankruptcy filing.

Business News- US- Green- Natural Gas- Exxon last Q losses trend for natural gas
30. October 2009 by admin.
Posted by: Steve LeVine on October 29
Today’s message from Exxon: Think, value, embrace natural gas.
The world’s largest publicly traded oil company reported its third-quarter earnings today, and — apart from its missed profit numbers — natural gas is the most significant story.
It’s been clear for a year or more that Exxon — along with most of Big Oil — is becoming more of a natural gas-led company than a dominant oil play. That’s significant because generally oil earns a lot more money by volume than natural gas. But since accessible conventional oil is in shorter and shorter supply — at least at economical-to-produce costs — Big Oil is making a virtue of the necessity of turning to natural gas for replenishing its reserve base.

From Newser- News that the US gross domestic product jumped 3.5% in the third quarter cheered investors and others, but the cheers will ring hollow if unemployment keeps rising, John Authers writes. Consumer spending rose even as disposable income fell—“ not a pattern that can be sustained for long, and it is inconsistent with the need for US families to pay down their debts,” he notes in the Financial Times.

The U.S. economy would have turned in a far worse performance in the third quarter without help from the federal government. Now the question is whether growth can continue without that support.
Congress and the White House aren’t yet ready to put that issue to the test. On Thursday, the Obama administration endorsed lawmakers’ efforts to extend tax credits for home buyers for another five months and to make them available to more people.
