Christian News- Somalia- 112 yr old Somali man marries 17 yr old

He is old enough to be her great-great-grandfather. But Ahmed Muhamed Dhore, a Somalian who claims he is 112 years old, said he had realised a “dream” by marrying a 17-year-old bride.

Dhore – who says he was born in 1897, the year that Queen Victoria celebrated her diamond jubilee – already has 13 children by five wives, but said he would like more with his newest, Safiya Abdulle.

German News- Green News- Germans invest in mass wind farms

After dipping their toes into the US renewable energy market a few years ago, Germany’s largest energy players are now increasing their investments, even as renewable energy sales in the US have slowed under the weight of the financial crisis. The hope is that a potential climate change bill in the Senate and billions in stimulus money aimed at building a clean energy sector in the US will pump life into the market.

“The US has enormous growth potential,” Frank Mastiaux, head of the Climate & Renewables division at German energy giant E.on, told SPIEGEL ONLINE. “It’s not the most attractive market in terms of revenue, but markets change,” he adds.

To that end, E.on invested $1 billion to build the largest wind farm in the world with 627 wind turbines in Roscoe, Texas, which opened this month. E.on has also opened two other wind farms in recent weeks, both in Texas, representing 600 additional megawatts of clean energy. That will bring the total capacity in the United States to over 1,700 megawatts, or more than half of the company’s total wind energy capacity worldwide. In terms of the impact to its bottom line, the US market is becoming more important to the company everyday, Mastiaux says.

Tech News- Net Neutrality- DOD open on open-source- the register uk

DOD deputy chief information officer David Wennergren, who wrote the document, said: “For this reason, it is important to understand both the specifics of the open-source license in question and how the Department intends to use and distribute any DOD-modified OSS.”

Like the rest of the US government and the private sector in general, the DoD has been a large user of open source. The White House, meanwhile, has also flown the flag for open-source in government.

Earlier today, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) held a press conference to announce the release of House Democrats’ version of health care reform legislation.  At 1,990 pages, the new bill is by far the largest reform proposals to come out of Congress.  It is a whopping 612 pages longer than the 1,368 page Hillarycare bill released in the early 90s.

Tech News- Google Wave review from ZMogo

http://www.zmogo.com/web/google-wave-tidal-wave-or-wading-pool/Applications that would excite me for Google Wave would be:

  1.  Google Maps integration to see where everyone is or to be able to collaborate on a map with the other users.  Imagine working with someone on a trip using the same map and having the dialog simultaneously?
  2. Google Voice integration so if you start a wave, you could include the message to be sent to someone’s phone number as a voicemail.
  3. Facebook, Twitter and Gmail integration to be able to communicate with people I am already connected to via Google Wave.  That could be one of the most powerful additions.
  4. Video.  Not just the ability to share web cam streams with each other for video conferences, but to be able to show a YouTube slip or other video and all watch and comment simultaneously.
