Dec. 23 (Bloomberg) — Red Hat Inc., the Linux software maker whose sales and profit in the latest quarter exceeded analysts’ estimates, said demand for its products is reviving, especially in North America.

“People are starting to spend like they’re seeing a recovery,” Chief Executive Officer Jim Whitehurst said in an interview yesterday after the company reported earnings for its third quarter ended Nov. 30.

[10] announced on the company blog that they have acquired Mixer Labs, creators of GeoAPI. In a nutshell, GeoAPI provides developers with the ability to query the world through services which include a reverse geocoder; deep data about 16 million businesses and tens of thousands of points of interest; a writable layer for developers to annotate the world and do complex geo-queries; and location-enabled media layers (e.g., Twitter and Flickr). Just recently, they’ve added an iPhone SDK to speed up mobile development as well.

The Federal Trade Commission has stepped up its antitrust review of[22] Google’s proposed $750 million acquisition of AdMob, a mobile advertising start-up.

A consensus has emerged that dark matter mostly consists of massive particles coughed out of the big bang. The reason for the appellation “dark” is because, unlike atomic particles, they have no electric charge, so cannot emit or scatter light. Nor do they feel the strong nuclear force that traps protons and neutrons in atomic nuclei. As a result, the dark particles interact so feebly with ordinary matter that they mostly pass right through it.

I originally felt Twitter lists would be really harmful, that people would be upset by not showing up on certain lists. I find that I’m now using five private lists and growing. I have two public lists, too. So far, the world hasn’t ended. And, lists have really helped me tidy up my “views” of Twitter, which is important if you’re following 90,000 folks.
