1-15-10 Martha Coakley Riles Catholics, Dem defense exposed

Martha Coakley Riles Catholics, Dem defense exposed

Martha Coakley’s inrteveriew Jan 14, 2010 on WBSM’s Ken Pittman show has touched off a fire storm over her attack on religious freedoms.  In her mind, separation of church and state somehow includes your workplace, like an emergency room.  The Dems have tried to defend her, even producing headlines like FOXNATION Falsely accuses Coakley…. They point out that the transcript does not include the last bit from the exchange.  So we will show you the part everyone else is showing you, along with the last part the dems are using to defend her and let you be the judge.

First, the typical ‘attack’ on Coakley:

Well, It’s Not Like Boston is A Big Catholic Town, Or Anything

And the hits just keep on coming:

WBSM Radio Host Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that.

Martha Coakley: No we have a separation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.

Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.

Martha Coakley: (…stammering) The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.

Or as Red Mass Group sums it up, “There you have it folks.  You should be denied a job because of your religious beliefs, because of laws dictated by the state. This is what Martha Coakley believes.”

Here is the rest of the transcript from this exchange that dems are using to accuse the ‘right’ of falsely accusing Coakley of saying Catholics shouldn’t work in emergency rooms:

PITTMAN: Wow. OK, so if you have religious conviction, stay out of the emergency room.

COAKLEY: Well, no, I’m not — look, you’re — you’re the one who brought the question up. I don’t believe that the law allows for that, and I know that we accommodate all kinds of differences all the time. I think Roe vs. Wade has made it clear that women have a right to choose, and in Massachusetts, particularly if someone has been the victim of a rape, an assault, and she goes to an emergency room to get contraception, someone else should say, “Oh, no, I don’t believe in this, so I’m going to affect your constitutional rights?”

PITTMAN: I agree that you’ve gotta have some balance there.

How does that rebuke what she said?  She is still saying that the ‘right’ of a woman to murder her baby supersedes the religious rights of the person in the emergency room.  Nice try lefty propaganda machine.

What is the blowback from this?

Catholic League president Bill Donohue has responded to what Massachusetts senatorial hopeful Martha Coakley said last night in a WBSM interview:

When Martha Coakley, a Roman Catholic, was asked whether she supports conscience rights for health care employees, she offered a resounding “NO.” So completely wedded to the extremists in the pro-abortion community, Coakley would not allow Catholic doctors and nurses—who unlike her accept the teachings of Catholicism—to recuse themselves from participating in procedures they find morally repugnant.

Coakley said that if she were asked to consider a bill that would say “if people believe that they don’t want to provide services that are required under the law and under Roe v. Wade, that they can individually decide to not follow the law. The answer is no.” When asked by host Ken Pittman about the rights of Catholics who follow the teachings of the Catholic Church, Coakley offered the separation of church and state mantra. Pittman then said, “In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.” Coakley conceded that point but hastened to add, “you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” Translated: You really don’t have a right to exercise your religious-liberty objections.

GAME-CHANGER—Martha Coakley: Devout Catholics “Probably Shouldn’t Work in the Emergency Room” (Video)
Gateway Pundit“You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” Democrat Martha Coakley was on with Ken Pittman from WBSM in Massachusetts today. Martha told Ken that if you object to abortion and are a devout Catholic then… “You probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” From the interview: Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that. ..

Quotations from Chairman Martha, cont’d
Power LineMassachusetts Democratic Senatorial candidate Martha Coakley provided another entry in our Quotations from Chairman Martha series today: WBSM Radio Host Ken Pittman: Right: if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches, that any form of birth control is a sin…ah, you don’t want to do that. Martha Coakley: No we have a separation of church and state, Ken. Let’s be clear. Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom. Martha Coakley: (…stammering) The law says that people are allowed to have that. And so …

Coakley’s conscience clause
Ben Smith’s Blog — Martha Coakley is taking fire this morning for her explanation to a radio interviewer of her attack on her opponent’s support for a religous exemption that would, she said, allow medical staffers to deny emergency contraception to a rape victim. But her stumble is difficult to understand in the context of nuanced state law on just that subject. “In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom,” said the interviewer, Ken Pittman. “The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room,” Coakley responded. ..

This might well be the coup de gras in an already floundering campaign, informing Catholics, and all ‘religious’ peoples that the separation of church and state includes every aspect of your life, not just government office, and that the right of a woman to murder her baby overrides all others’ rights, including Catholics.

It is truly a gift for us when leftists make the mistake of revealing their truly fascist core beliefs.  Thank you Martha Coakley.  You make our jobs a lot easier.

As a closing reminder, Martha Coakley is a rabid supporter of partial birth abortion, where you drag the baby out of the womb, alive, and murder it.  The cult of death permeates the left, and Martha is the standard bearer of the death cult.
