John Fund of the Wall Street Journal has been banging the drum about possible plans by Pelosi and Reid to use the lame duck session of Congress after the November election to force through unpopular legislation using the votes of Democrats who might lose their bid for re-election. Fund has pointed to the potential for Democrats to gain support for unpopular bills, like Cap and Trade and the Disclose Act, by urging members who will be out of office when the new Congress comes into session to vote for these Bills which, prior to the election, could cost them votes.

2010 Race Watch: Christine O’Donnell in Delaware’s Senate Race

There is an interesting race in Delaware to see who will finish the remainder of Vice President Biden’s term in the U.S. Senate.  There is a contested Republican primary on September 14 with Christine O’Donnell challenging 9-term Congressman Mike Castle to be the Republican nominee to run against the Democratic nominee Chris Coons.

What I find appalling is that the Republican Party of Delaware is throwing its support behind Castle (at least they aren’t mentioning her on their website).  Shouldn’t the party be neutral in contested primaries?  I believe so, and I think Delaware would be wise to follow the Republican Party of Iowa’s example of neutrality and equal opportunity for candidates to get their message to Republicans in the state.

This establishment Republican has been in elected office for over 40 years. After serving in state government, he was elected to Congress in 1993, and since that time he has managed to compile one of the most liberal voting records in the GOP.

Republican Christine O’Donnell officially launched her campaign for U.S. Senate Wednesday in front of a handful of supporters at the University of Delaware’s Wilmington campus.
