Business News- World- Toyota Prius Recall in Japan coming

Reports: Toyota decides to recall Prius in Japan- China Daily

TOKYO: Toyota has decided to issue a recall for the Prius in Japan, media reports said Sunday, as the company told dealers in the United States it is preparing to repair the brakes on thousands of the hybrid vehicles there. It was unclear whether Toyota planned a formal US recall.

The company is already in the middle of a global recall of 4.5 million other vehicles over defective gas pedals and floor mats that could cause unintended acceleration. Those problems and criticism of Toyota’s response to them have sullied the stellar reputation for quality long enjoyed by the world’s biggest automaker.

Toyota decided on a separate recall in Japan on Saturday covering its latest Prius model and has notified dealers, Japan’s largest newspaper, the Yomiuri, reported without naming sources. It said Toyota would announce the move early this week after consulting with the Japanese government. Japan’s Kyodo News agency and TV Asahi carried similar reports. Kyodo said at least 170,000 vehicles in Japan would be subject to the recall.

Business News- American Debt- the world still bets on American exceptionalism

The Debtor the World Still Bets On- NYtimes

hy is the world betting that the United States will overcome its political deadlock and solve its problems — believing, it seems, in the truth of Churchill’s biting quip that America will always do the right thing, after exhausting every other alternative? And how long can this aura of invincibility last? Maybe a long, long time. One of the many things that makes the United States different is that it prints the world’s most important currency and can always print more — one reason investors in government debt remain confident they will be repaid, even if in dollars devalued by inflation or by changing exchange rates.

There is also value in being the one nation on which the world still depends for security. That helps explain why foreign investors, including China, can denounce American politicians, Wall Street bankers and sleepwalking regulators for creating the current mess — and still buy at the next Treasury auction.

World Business News- Top Story- EU disunion over Greek Debt Crisis

Saturday, February 6, 2010

By admin

EU Debt Crisis could speak to a larger issue, the impracticality of massively united systems in the new global reality.  As the Greek Debt problem grows, it is becoming apparent to EU members that being a member of a large union puts each member’s country at risk to the effect of even a small member of that group.
